Barranc del Tortó

The Barranc del Tortó, located near Llabería, is a short and easy canyon suitable for beginners, with a 40-minute approach from the village parking. The descent takes about 1.5 hours and features five rappels, the longest being 18m. A 1x40m or 2x20m rope is sufficient, and no wetsuit is needed. The first rappel is a beautiful 15m free-hanging drop into a trap pool, requiring a 4-5m climb out using a knotted rope. The second is another spectacular 17m free-hanging rappel. Subsequent rappels are shorter: a 7m drop into a frog-filled pool, a 10m rappel from an exposed anchor, and a final 8m drop. The return walk takes 1 hour, following the stream bed until a cairn marks a path to the left, leading parallel to the canyon back to the start. Be aware of the possibility of snakes in the trap pool.
