About this catalogue

Every one of these 285 via ferratas carries its Hüsler K grade (K1 to K6), cable length, vertical drop and the time each section takes, so you know what you are walking into before you leave home. In the Cims app you can mark them as climbed, rate the difficulty and the scenery, add your own photos and leave tips for whoever goes next.

Via ferratas, answered

What is a via ferrata?

A via ferrata is a climbing route equipped with a steel cable, rungs, ladders and sometimes bridges or zip lines fixed to the rock. You clip into the cable with a via ferrata set, which means you can cross terrain that would otherwise need climbing skills.

How does the K grading scale work?

Via ferratas use the Hüsler scale, K1 to K6. K1 is easy and suits beginners with a head for heights; K2 and K3 are moderate; K4 is hard and sustained; K5 and K6 are extremely demanding, often overhanging and strenuous on the arms. A route may carry a span such as K2–K5 when its sections differ.

What gear do I need?

A harness, a helmet and a certified via ferrata set with its energy absorber. Gloves and approach shoes help. The set is not optional: a fall onto a plain sling can be fatal.

Can I track the via ferratas I have climbed?

Yes. Cims is a free app where you log the via ferratas you climb, rate them, add photos and earn achievements as you work through the 285 in the catalogue, alongside the peaks you summit.
