Barranco de Aveller

Barranco de Aveller, rated v4 a1 III, requires a car shuttle. The 20-minute approach from Montant de Tost involves a steep, overgrown path with brambles and nettles, leading to the start within the forest. Anchors are generally in good condition, using chemical bolts, spits, and chains, though some searching may be needed due to vegetation. The descent features numerous chained rappels. Be aware of a trap pothole that can be avoided with a chain on the left and a fixed rope for exit. One rappel is installed on a single-point chain, requiring caution. The final three rappels are the most spectacular, with drops of 26-28m, 20-25m into a dry hanging pothole, and a 50m rappel to the bottom. Some guides may be inaccurate regarding rappel heights. After the last rappels and downclimbs, the route reaches the banks of the Vansa river. A full wetsuit and two 50m ropes are necessary. The return walk takes 20 minutes.
