Barranco de Río Calera Inferior

This dry canyon, usually without water except in autumn/winter, is accessed via a 3-minute walk from the Covalanas cave parking in Ramales de la Victoria. An alternative approach via the Río Calera Via Ferrata skips the first rappel. The descent includes six rappels, with the longest being 15m. The first rappel is a 20m vertical drop from a tree. Subsequent sections feature stagnant pools, which can be avoided using a traverse line, and a series of rappels and downclimbs, including an 8m rappel into a pothole and a 14m rappel with double anchors. Anchors are well-equipped with chemical bolts. Multiple escape routes are available. The return walk to the car takes 40 minutes, with a single 30m rope sufficient for the descent.
