Barranco Formiga
The Barranco Formiga is approached from a parking area on the Panzano-Bierge road. The 30-minute walk crosses the river, follows the right bank, passes the Cueva de las Polvorosas with a fixed handline (ignore this for the main route), and continues with sections of via ferrata cable before descending to the two possible starting points. The descent involves 5 rappels, numerous downclimbs, and toboggans. The first rappel can be 14m straight down or 20m with a traverse. Rappel 2 (7m) has anchors on both sides, with a handline on the right. Rappel 3 (7m) leads to a small pool. The first siphon can be avoided. Anchors are generally chemical bolts. This canyon is equipped with chemical anchors. A 30m rope and full wetsuit are recommended. The return walk is short, taking only 15 minutes.
