Barranco del Fornocal
The Barranco del Fornocal is a v3 a2 IV canyon in Sierra de Guara, requiring a full wetsuit and a 30m rope for its 9 rappels, the longest being 15m. The approach takes 45 minutes from the upper car park, following a track to the Barranco de Bastol, then into the Fornocal's boulder chaos. A second car is recommended for the return. The descent begins with a 12m rappel into a pool, followed by two 5m rappels, also into water. After passing under a large block, there are two more short rappels of 4m and 5m. Anchors are generally two parabolts with rings. The canyon is aquatic with pools and requires careful navigation through its block-filled sections. The return walk is a short 15 minutes.
