Barranco Ligero o Amoladoras

The Barranco Ligero or Amoladoras is accessed via a 5-minute walk down a track to the left bank of the stream, passing a dam to reach the first rappel. A two-car combination is recommended, leaving one car at the Canales power station parking and the other at the La Higuera restaurant on A-395 KM16. The descent features 16 rappels, with the longest being 20m. Anchors are excellent stainless steel parabolts. The first rappel is 4m, leading to a small landing with a handrail. Subsequent rappels include a 16m drop, a 10m drop with a handrail crossing the stream, and a 15m rappel through a semi-open tube. Another 17m rappel requires a handrail to access the anchor. The canyon is mostly dry (a1 aquatic grade) and requires two 25m ropes or one 50m rope. The return walk takes 30 minutes.
