Barranco de la Magdalena

The Barranco de la Magdalena, near Castril, offers a short and scenic descent. The approach takes 25 minutes, following a track from the A-326 towards the campsite, then a steep path to an inclined rock slab. Traverse diagonally right to a handline, leading to a comfortable ledge. The descent is brief, with two rappels. The first is 25m into a waist-deep pool, followed by a walk to the second. The second rappel is 28m, very aesthetic, and lands at the base of a pool, easily avoidable if you prefer not to get wet. Anchors are parabolts with chains and rings, plus spits with maillons. No wetsuit is needed, and two 30m ropes are required. The entire descent takes about 1 hour, and the return walk is a quick 10 minutes along the same approach path. This canyon is short but beautiful, with a total vertical drop of 30 meters.
