Barranco de Mela o Abdet

The Barranco de Mela or Abdet is a dry canyon with 12 rappels, the longest being 12 m, located near Abdet. The approach is short, just 10 minutes from the cemetery parking, following a cemented track. The canyon typically has water in its pools in the first section. Excellent equipment, including chemical anchors and parabolts, is found throughout. The descent features a series of short rappels, starting with a 6 m jumpable drop, followed by a 4 m rappel where water appears. Subsequent rappels range from 4 m to 9 m, with a 7 m slippery ramp. An escape route is available after the fourth rappel. A 12 m handrail can be set up for a 7 m rappel, or bypassed if dry. The final 9 m rappel almost leads to the exit. The return walk takes 20 minutes, involving a steep path to a wastewater treatment plant and then following yellow arrows across a dry torrent back to the starting point. A short wetsuit (peto) is recommended for the initial aquatic sections.
