
Barranco Rinero
The Rinero canyon, near Benasque, requires a 1-hour approach involving a steep ascent on a track and a marked trail, followed by a careful descent to the streambed due to loose, slippery rock. The descent features 11 rappels, with the longest being 30 m, and includes a 15 m handrail to access the first 28 m rappel. Anchors are excellent, consisting of parabolts. Two 35 m ropes and a full wetsuit are needed. Water levels should be checked as high flow can pose problems. The descent takes 3 hours, and the return walk is a short 15 minutes. Escape routes are available.
