Barranco Riueño
Barranco Riueño, located near Aneto, is a highly aquatic canyon fed by upper lakes, requiring caution during snowmelt. The approach takes 1 hour, ascending a steep but constant zigzag track next to a tunnel, then diagonally to an elevation of 1775m before heading left to the canyon's start. The descent features 10 rappels over 700 m, with a total vertical drop of 270 m. Early rappels (8m, 12m, 16m, 6m, 10m) are often slippery and use trees or single M8 parabolts, some feeling exposed. Rappel 6 (22m) offers a better installation with two parabolts. The longest rappel is 35m. Escapes are available throughout the canyon. Anchoring is acceptable, using M10 and M8 parabolts, and trees. A 2x40m rope is needed, and a long john wetsuit is recommended. The return walk is a short 10 minutes.
